While Hokkaido is famous for its winters, Tokachi is just as rewarding in summer. Mild temperatures, green farmland, blooming gardens, and lively festivals make the warm season one of the best times to visit. Here is how to make the most of it.

Planning Your Summer Trip
Summer temperatures in Tokachi are mild compared with much of Japan, but days can be warm and nights cool, so light layers are useful. The region is spread out and public transport between sights is limited, so the easiest way to explore is by rental car based in Obihiro. Many gardens, farms, and cafes keep seasonal hours and some close on certain days, so it is worth checking opening times before you set out. Summer is also festival and harvest season, bringing fresh local produce, lively events, and long daylight hours for sightseeing. Whether you come for the gardens, the food, or the festivals, allow two to three days to enjoy Tokachi at a relaxed pace.
