When you are driving around the Tokachi area, please stop at a 'Michinoeki' (roadside station) where you can find original foods, souvenirs and unique goods.
A 'Michinoeki' (roadside station) is a useful place where you can stop to take a break, use the toilet and buy something you need while driving or riding a motorcycle/bicycle. There are 14 such stops along the major roads in the Tokachi district, and they provide meals made of local foods and original souvenirs. At some of the roadside stations tourist information centers provide information on the local history, tourist attractions and the roads. Wireless LAN is also available at some. Markets where local foods are sold at reasonable prices are sometimes held at some of the roadside stations on specific days of week, and some have such facilities as a hot spring, camping site, accommodation, park golf course, cheese factory, dog run or history museum. They are frequented by both tourists and many local people. Stop at a roadside station and find local specialties while travelling.
