Hokkaido Balloon Festival
On a summer morning, many hot-air balloons rise into the clear blue sky above Kamishihoro Town. Would you like to experience riding in a hot-air balloon?
There are 30 colorful hot-air balloons (the number for 2012) that participate in the festival and during the three days of the festival they are involved in various competitions. The festival is held in Kouku Park, approximately 2 km west of Kamishihoro Town. This park is ideal for this kind of festival because there are no obstacles that balloons will bump into. In the summer, the best time to release the balloons is around 5 or 6 a.m. in the morning when the wind is quiet. Please get up early and come to see them. (The schedule is subject to change due to weather.) During the festival, there are also opportunities to experience riding in a hot-air balloon that floats 30 m or 40 m above the ground. The fee is 1,000 yen per adult and 700 yen per child.
