International Tractor BAMBA (Kokisai Tractor BAMBA)
Sarabetsu village is one of the areas with the largest number of tractors. They compete with their power in this event.
International Tractor BAMBA is an event that is held in Sarabetsu. The village boasts a total cultivated land area per farming household of 43 ha and the total number of tractors per household is four or more (as of 2005). This event is a race in which agricultural tractors called “Meka-uma (mechanical horse)” pull weights instead of horses. Before starting the race, the many “Meka-uma” tractors proudly drive in line through the shopping streets. The scenery is overwhelming. Before the final match, one can bet on the outcome of the match, voting for a specific “Meka-uma.” If you have predicted correctly, you can get products produced in Sarabetsu and other great prizes. The 10th anniversary of the race in 2012 attracted more than 17,000 visitors and was a great success.
