Honbetsu Stream Azalea Festival (Honbetsu Sankei Tsutsuji Matsuri)
Ezomurasakitsutsuji (Dahurian Azaleas), vibrantly colored flowers, bloom earlier than other flowers in spring. Let’s feel the Hokkaido spring.
The festival is held around the time when 16,000 azaleas are in full bloom in Honbetsu Park, which is popular for Dahurian Azaleas. At the same time, 2,000 Sargent Cherry trees bloom and spring has arrived. As a popular event during the festival, JumboYoshitsune-nabe, pork miso soup using ingredients produced in Honbetsu, is made in a giant pot (dia.: 2 meters). Other events are also held, such as rainbow trout fishing, releasing rainbow trout into the river, in which children may participate, and a stage show, and there are also attractive facilities including Fuwa Fuwa Land (inflated play equipment) that is popular with children.
