Carp streamers along the Rekifune River (Rekifune-gawa Seiryu Koinobori)

Many koinobori carp streamers are displayed as if they are flying along the river to wish for children’s health.

On Children’s Day (May 5), koinobori carp streamers are displayed in the hope that children will grow up healthy and strong. There are 236 of these huge carp streamers that flow above the river. The number 236 represents Route 236, the road passing across the Rekifune River. This event started in 1991 with carp streamers donated by Taiki citizens who did not use them anymore. Now it is a feature of spring in Taiki and carp streamers are donated by both local citizens and people living in other places. In recent years, smaller carp streamers have been displayed all along the river and they are popular with families as a spot for taking photos of their children.
